What do you want to see at a public Frenchman’s Bay?

I want to hear from you! The city plans to buy Frenchman’s Bay with the help of the province and federal government. Do you want to see more beach, trails, patios, recreation opportunities or something else?

The last update I know of, was in the form of a letter from Kevin Ashe to Mark Carney dated 2025-10-15.

If there was an update after this, I've missed it.

    The tl;dr was basically:

    • "A 160 day due diligence period was imminent" (ie ~March 2026).
    • Pickering committed $10M.
    • Pickering was "in the final steps of confirming support from the Province"
    • Pickering was "securing a $10 Million from the Federal Government"

    Some questions...

Where did the "three-way-split" idea come from? How will ongoing costs be covered? What can the city realistically do with the land? Are there any limitations or sanctions created as a result of the JV with province and federal gov? Who will steward the land, after the acquisition, if it goes through? What happens of cost over-runs or

In terms of what to do with it, I believe we should run a call-for-proposals for leasing some portion of it in long-but-finite leases, and see what creativity the community comes up with. Not for housing or anything structurally permanent, but for using the water-access, ideally in a peaceful and elegant way.
